Since COVID-19 shook us in 2020, my camera has captured the soul of Altadena and North Pasadena – shopkeepers (and friends) greeting customers, neighbors sharing stories, and the quiet dignity of this Los Angeles suburb, often kept as our little secret. As a fellow Altadenean, I've earned the trust of my subjects not just as a photographer, but as a neighbor who shares their streets and their stories. This camaraderie is what allowed me to document their daily lives without hesitation.
These photographs, while of Altadena ‘before the Eaton Fire’ now serve as historical documents of a community partially lost to flames. Each frame reveals the personality of a place that will refuse to be defined by disaster, even as the recent fires have reshaped its incredible landscape and diverse community.
